Public Storage Rebranding Program

Acquisition of Shurgard Storage required rebranding/reimaging of 214 properties in eight states. When Public Storage acquired competitor Shurgard Storage, all facilities needed to be rebranded with the new company’s logo signage. Temporary signage was required within five days of acquisition. Customer stakeholders were Real Estate, Construction, Facilities, and Operations. Public Storage engaged EMG to provide a process by which all 214 properties in eight states could be converted in a timely manner, in compliance with the agreement.

Result

EMG designated one Project Manager to manage the entire program, ensuring that the customer and vendors had one point of contact for questions, issues, concerns, and updates. Utilizing a mobilized team of nine people, EMG surveyed all of the locations, entering data into our proprietary web-based data system, ProTrack; project reporting and data-sharing was “real time” and immediate. Ten sign contractors, a national electrical contractor for new lighted signs, and a national painter for decaling were managed. The rebranding was completed in a timely manner, and EMG eliminated the need for Public Storage to hire at least five internal resources to manage the program’s POs, invoices, and tracking, generating an additional savings of approximately $250,000.
