EMG managed an LED lighting retrofit program with an 18-month payback in select areas of 170 store interiors over seven months. Giant Eagle had planned a $16 million capital improvement program to replace its lighting with LED fixtures in select areas of 170 stores, to reduce energy bills and to improve the shopping experience. The original goal was to do 80 stores in the first fiscal year. The return on investment was required to be less than 18 months.
EMG verified scope lighting quantities and made sure the fixtures and lights were installed correctly. Quality control was provided by onsite punch walks, store communication, and contractor oversight. Project reporting was provided in ProTrack. EMG was also responsible for site level operations communications, contractor management, budget, and project closeout. Because of the program’s efficiency and payback in the first 80 stores, the program was expanded to all 170 stores over seven months in the same fiscal year. At the beginning of the project, both the client and contractor were unsure of EMG’s added value. After working with EMG, both parties maintained that they would not want to complete a rollout program again without using EMG.
