RaceTrac’s in-house facility management team had no extra capacity during a period of heavy demand. EMG was selected as a third party project management consultant to bolster available resources. EMG was initially contracted for project management services/field work by the RaceTrac on-site management team at new RaceWay and RaceTrac locations. Hiring a third party outsourced project management resource was a culture shift for RaceTrac which exclusively relied on in-house employees to complete projects. RaceTrac made the decision to partner with the company after receiving a referral from Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, a long-time client of EMG.
EMG provided RaceTrac with experienced project managers who were familiar with the convenience store/petroleum model. The company’s work with RaceTrac progressed from construction monitoring/management of several RaceWay locations in FL, MS, SC, TN, TX to complete ground-up/new construction of the brand’s premier flagship RaceTrac stores in the South and Southeast U.S. RaceTrac now uses EMG for a wide range of project management services. The company functions as an extension of RaceTrac’s in-house design and engineering team by developing and approving budgets, qualifying bids, hiring contractors, overseeing construction management, and scheduling all aspects of site construction from the build-out of a site to a location’s opening. EMG is also responsible for ADA site condition assessments for several locations. EMG’s project management success has been mentioned at the RaceTrac annual conference.
