Former 1900s Cigar Factory Converted to Multi-use Space

When financing the conversion of the iconic “Cigar Factory” in Charleston, SC to retail, restaurant, office, and event space, PNC chose EMG as its construction monitoring provider because of our deep in-house expertise in historic building preservation, change of use, and industrial facilities.

Originally built in 1882 as a cotton mill, the building was bought by the American Tobacco Company in 1912 and used for cigar manufacturing until 1973. Today the Cigar Factory is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Upholding the historical integrity of the building was of the utmost importance during the $15MM (hard costs) renovation project.

This two-year, high profile historical renovation is now over halfway complete. EMG has and will continue to take a prominent role in monthly onsite construction meetings, engage in frequent dialogue with the Client, and deliver our monthly reports on schedule. We are routinely asked by our client to provide input on the details of the project. Completion is scheduled for late Q4 2015.
